About Me

I just need some lasers in the background of this glamour shot!

Ryan Dolley hails from a long and storied line of Cognos developers. No seriously, his father worked at Cognos/IBM for many years before Ryan took up the mantle of the family business. Having put in his time as a report developer and Transformer master, he now advises clients on how to maximize their investment in IBM analytics technologies. In 2019 he was selected as an IBM Champion. He is currently a Senior Solution Architect and Product Manager with PMsquare.

I am so glad to have found this. I was at a Cognos Upgrade Workshop in Columbus, OH yesterday and met Chris Loechel, who directed me to your blog. Senior management at my state agency is dumping Cognos in favor of Tableau and wants the Cognos reports converted to Tableau. I have tried to warn them about all the pitfalls and concerns about which I knew, but they insist on pushing full steam ahead and have allocated a tremendous amount of money doing this. I am hoping that I can learn things from your blog, as well as the resources you provide in it, that I can take to them addressing issues that I have not spoken about yet.

Best of luck Scott, let me know if I can assist with this in any way. The reality is that spending a ton of money to dump Cognos in favor of Tableau makes no sense in 2020 as Cognos is a very good visualization tool but Tableau remains a very, very poor reporting tool.
